Let the Samurai fly

What better way to kick this off than by having our good buddy Dante Leandado join the fray with his powerful Eskimo Samurai contribution. Did I forget to mention the powerfulness??

Here is my eskimo samurai. i got a bit stupid with it, this thing is out of control. ha. i may do another. -Chris

I got six more on the way. But here's a few until they are ready. -Craig

Here's mine...finally.

  1. Nice man!! Love how you adapted the samurai features with an eskimo motif, specifically the blade...Like, he was thinking, "I live out here in the arctic, but I want to be a powerful Eskimo[Inuit] Samurai..." And your grayscale stuff is nice...I think I need to do that with mine, to achieve some tone. Awesome!

  4. Great job Chris- The igloo helmet is pretty clever! i like how it obscures the eyes like one of those asian sun hats.

I normally just lurk around, but when i saw Craig's topic i felt compelled to give it a try. I'm a sucker for anything samurai- related!

was alot harder than i though tho- i kept getting the eskimo: samurai ratio wrong, i mainly just wanted to draw the samurai aspect of it. really had to restrain myself and stick to the topic. my early roughs just looked like a samurai dressed for winter!

thanks for letting me play too!

  5. thanks a ton dante! i agree, this was a very difficult topic but it was a ton of fun to do. for whatever reason, i really noodled it and got a little goofy. i am glad you are on board. craig can get you set up in the blog so that you are able to post whenever you would like.

  6. Craig- i dig how you worked the native- american patterns into the clothes.

Another problem i was having w/ my roughs was that the animal pelt clothing+ samurai-esque facial hair + sword made the roughs look like a mongul raider type guy rather than an eskimo. I think you solve that nicely by hinting at those type patterns being sewn in. It makes way easier to identify them as inuit.

    #3 certainly is familiar!

    This is pretty fun!

  7. wow! you really hit on something here. i think where i have missed the mark with my past challenges is not taking an opportunity to explore several designs like you have in this image. these are great. i get to see an army of eskimo samurais.
